General Commission of Customs tasks
The General Commission of Customs is considered one of the most important
establishments of ministry of Finance because of the vital role of this
commission especially in financial, economic, and social affairs such as:
1- Income collecting for treasury interest.
General Commission of Customs is one of ministry of Finance advanced offices
In gathering the incomings for the sake of public treasury, where it's income
has reached a high level of the total income of the treasury through the last
years.
The Commission is getting it's revenue chiefly from Customs fees on goods and
imported and exported materials according to tariff law, production taxes,
confiscation and accumulated funds, and the assigned goods by the sellers in the
public auction and the other different duties such as checking, storing, and
loading ones…etc.
2-Organizing external trade movement:
General Commission of Customs participate in organizing the external trade
movement by following laws, legislations, and the special instructions of the
trade movement and preventing any violations it might face, also it prevents the
forbidden or illegal materials to enter to the country or to go out.
3-Sociaty protection:
Customs plays an important role in protecting community and citizens from
negative phenomena such as preventing drugs and hallucination pills to enter the
country illegally and also preventing the ubscene pictures and movie.
4- To prevent smuggling phenomena:
One of the major tasks of the General Commission of Customs is to prevent
smuggling phenomena in all it's ways the traditional and technical to enter Iraq
or to go out of it because of it's negative effects on the national economy and
society, through it's different systems and staffs wherever they are, working on
the borders or inside the country.
5- Protection the national products:
Customs fees are considered a vital mean in protecting the national products and
industries through increasing the Customs duties on the same imported materials
to protect the national goods from unequal competition and this is by a
suggestion from the concerned official parties after having the agreements about
the average of these suggested duties.
6- Giving opinions in laws and legislations:
General Commission of Customs gives the viewpoint in laws, legislations, and
instructions which are issued by the different national systems and if necessary
by systems which have business with the Customs, and giving advice as long as
it is concerned with the Customs in bilateral and multilateral agreements that
Iraq enters into with Arabic and Foreign countries.
